Our hands they are in constant use yet they are usually the most forgotten in our skincare routine, but this awful Virus has brought our hands to the forefront of attention, everything we touch takes moisture from the skin and as we all now know passes bacteria too. We touch our faces on average up to 15 times per hour!
Think about the bashing your hands take everything you touch is porous, the constant washing dries them out, the alcohol in the antibacterial gel can actually cause the skin to split but this can be avoided if you give your hands the care and attention they deserve.
Here are some hands care tips from Karen J. Gerrard, Founder SEAMS Couturiers Hand Cream.
1. Moisturising and keeping your skin hydrated is the key to soft plump skin. I can’t stress enough the importance of drinking water Pinch a small piece of skin on the top of your hand and let go if it takes a long time to sink back you are dehydrated
2. Wash and Dry gloves. We are now wearing gloves not only for washing up but to protect our hands from bacteria when unpacking the shop, but if like me your gloves end up wet inside make sure you dry them thoroughly before using again. Damp gloves can harbour bacteria and also cause skin to become chapped.
The insides will not dry lying them flat on the kitchen worktop! A handy tip is to fasten two edges together with a bulldog clip and hang them up open to dry out in between uses.
3. Cover cuts. If you do have a sore crack in a finger cover it with a plaster to protect to avoid water getting in and causing the skin to crack further.
4. Use a gentle soap to help avoid irritations.
5. Wash with warm water warm not too hot to avoid drying the skin further.
6. Dry your hands fully to ensure you have removed all the bacteria.
7. Be careful when taking things out of the oven. Don’t grab a tea towel be sure you use oven gloves. Again if the oven gloves get wet dry them fully before using again.
8. Leave nail varnish off to give nails a chance to breathe, keep nails shorter and square to avoid catching on anything. Healthy nails and cuticles will keep up the appearance of hands, and do not pull off any hang nails just gently clip.
9. Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise at least 3- 4 times a day especially before going to sleep. SEAMS Couturiers Hand Cream absorbs instantly and isn’t greasy and will help to mend dry rough skin. Use together with our Silk Touch Hand & Nail Oil at night as a treatment. Remember to massage in some extra cream to cuticles to keep them smooth.
10. Then when you get a minute to relax give yourself a hand massage, rubbing the pressure points in your palm will keep the blood flowing and help to keep hands smooth.
