How to bake your makeup like a pro

Think you know all there is to know about makeup? Hey after several lockdowns you may do. But one thing I get asked a lot, is how does baking makeup work and do you bake your makeup?

Made famous by Kim Kardashians makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic baking your make up is allowing translucent powder to sit on your face for 10 minutes whilst allowing the heat from your face to set your foundation and concealer.

I LOVE to bake, especially if I am going out or I want my makeup to last all day. If you struggle with your makeup creasing or looking flakey this is also an ideal tip to try which will leave your skin looking flawless.

So how does baking makeup work?

Don’t skip on your skincare

Ensure you have a cleansed and moisturized base to start with and don’t skip on your eye cream, this is key for keeping the under eyes from creasing. Plumper, hydrated skin will always help with makeup application and help to minimize any fine lines or wrinkles so don’t skip it!!

Conceal under the eyes

Next, apply a thick layer of concealer under the eyes and blend out with a damp beauty blender.

If you don’t dampen your beauty blender already this is a game changer for your makeup! Don’t scrimp on this step, the more concealer the better just ensure you blend it out properly.

There are several concealers I use my favourites being Loreal Infalliable, Huda Beauty Overachiever Concealer and Elf Camo Concealer.

Set with powder

Using a super fluffy brush use a translucent powder to dust all over the concealer you have just added, this will set your base in place.

My favourite is Easy bake loose baking powder in shade poundcake from Huda Beauty.

Baking makeup time

Use a smaller beauty blender or makeup sponge, spray with setting spray and dip back into your powder. The setting spray will help to grip the powder before applying to the skin.

This is an important step, pack on the powder generously under the eyes, you may think you look a little crazy but trust me this works! Leave on for 10 minutes.

I normally start to do my eyes at this stage so I’m not tempted to remove the powder early!

Dust it off

Use your fluffy brush from earlier to dust off the powder, you should notice how flawless your under eyes look. If you have any harsh lines or edges again use your fluffy brush to blend this in.

Now finish off the rest of your makeup and take some fabulous selfies!!
