I do love a good dupe, and I do think there are certain items I have bought across the years that have been amazing, but I have also tried some that have missed the mark completely. Aldi Beauty Dupes have been getting better over the years, in particular, their skincare range ‘Lacura’ has been bringing out products similar to high street hero’s for a while now and I am absolutely here for it.
Their take on Jo Malone candles is to die for, their eye shadow palettes super pigmented, their perfumes, uncanny! But skincare is a difficult one, can they really include the same ingredients as the more expensive lines? I wanted to find out and after visiting my local store to find their take on the Glow Recipe skincare range I knew I had to try some bits out for myself.
So, what did I buy?
Lacura, Aldi Skincare dupes
First up I bought the Lacura Pineapple Face Serum which is a dupe for the Glow Recipe Pineapple-C Bright serum. Retailing at £4.99 for 30ml, plus its cruelty free which are immediate winners for me. In comparison for the same size bottle, you are looking at a price point of £46.
I wanted to compare the ingredients for the two as for me this is the most important aspect, sure anyone can create a product that looks similar but what about what’s inside.
And although I am no skincare specialist, I do know what I am looking for in my products and the first 5 ingredients used are always the most key.
Although both products do contain similar ingredients such as Pineapple, Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid, however they are much higher up the list on Glow recipe which usually means they are more potent and will benefit your skin more.
Secondly, I bought the Avocado eye bright eyes retinol sleeping mask. LOVED the packaging and again the price point is low at £4.99 for 15ml. Promising to help reduce dark circles and help the eye area look brighter and firmer. Again, a huge dupe for the Glow Recipe Avocado melt sleeping mask that retails at £41. Comparing the two, there are 13 ingredients that are the same, however the Glow Recipe is sulphate and cruelty free and has retinol high up in the list whereas it is much lower on the list at Aldi.
My third and final pick was the Watermelon Gel moisturizer which is by far my favourite. £4.99 for a 50ml pot I love the packaging and the scent of this product. Promising to hydrate and soften the skin this little pot is a dupe for the Glow Recipe Watermelon glow drops which retails at £31. Although both products do contain Niacinamide and hyaluronic acid that’s pretty much where the similarity ends. I do love how both products give your skin that super dewy glow.
The Verdict?
My first impressions were great, I loved the packaging it was super eye catching and the bottles are glass which felt much more premium and luxurious for the price point.
The serum for me was much too watery, it did sink into the skin super easily, but I did feel that it left quite a tacky feeling to the skin very similar to the ordinary.
The avocado eye cream is great on application, super easy to apply and sinks in like a dream. But with the low amount of retinol in I doubt it would do much for wrinkles or dark circles.
I actually loved the watermelon gel moisturizer, the smell was divine and I loved how it felt on my skin. It felt super hydrating and nourishing and left my skin feeling really soft.
If you’re looking for skincare on a budget or just want some pretty pots in your bathroom I would recommend, however, if you have specific skincare concerns or you’re worried about anti-aging I would suggest researching into products that may benefit your skin more than these would.
