It’s not just your wardrobe that requires updating when the seasons change, your skincare regime does as well. So, let’s talk winter skincare.
Cold weather and central heating can really start to show on your skin causing irritation, dryness and just an overall dull effect (gorgeous) and quite frankly who wants that? Not me that is for sure. Getting myself into a good winter skincare regime has been difficult, but when I hit thirty, I started to think of my skincare as an investment.
So, what do I do? I keep it simple, my skin is sensitive yet dry at the best of times (what a beautiful combination!) But the colder months- they love to hit me and my flaky nose hard!
1. Cleanse, tone and moisturise
It’s not rocket science, but after a long day sometimes I just want to reach for the facewipes and be done with it. In winter however, you really do need to go the extra mile. I do still use wipes as a starting point, but I then follow it up with a creamy cleanser, I use Garnier cleansing milk for sensitive skin followed by the toner in the same range. Finishing off with the Naturally radiant night cream from Superdrug, it is thick and just soaks into the skin without feeling like you have a mask on.
2. ‘Treat’ your skin with a face mask
Once a week I love to ‘treat’ my skin and use a face mask for that bit of extra hydration. And I am in LOVE with the new Garnier moisture bomb tissue masks I cannot rate these highly enough, twenty minutes of looking like you belong in a Halloween movie leaves your skin unbelievably hydrated and nourished. All for less than £3 with masks to suit all types of skin they really are worth trying.
3. Exfoliate and moisturise from top to toe
It’s not just your face you need to consider in winter it’s your whole body. As much as I don’t like to whip my legs out unless I’m under the Spanish sun even they need some extra TLC come the winter months.
Exfoliation is key, I try to exfoliate my whole body twice a week and as time consuming as it may sound it is super important to shed dead flaky skin, in turn leaving your skin revitalised. I don’t think you need to spend the earth on these they really are all the same.
I also could not be without a body butter, they really are a girl’s best friend, I have tried many over the years and always come back to the same one Body Shop Coconut body butter. Not only can you smell like summer all year round but this product works on even the driest of skin.
4. Hydrate yourself from the inside out
But hey, not to sound too much like your mum but you can spend as much as you like on skincare, whack products on morning noon and night but if you don’t drink your water and keep your body hydrated throughout the year it will show on your skin. So next time you’re wondering why your skin looks dull ask yourself how much water you have consumed that day. If you’re feeling like water isn’t hitting the spot, add in some hydration tablets or electrolite drinks.
