5 Ways to release anxiety and check in with yourself

If you’re looking for some anxiety release, you probably label yourself as having anxiety and call it ‘my anxiety’. Anxiety isn’t you though, and most people suffer with it at some time or another. It can also be so easy to confuse anxiety with excitement as they are both aroused emotions. In both, the heart beats faster, cortisol surges, and the body prepares for action. The literal only difference is that with excitement you are focussed on the positive outcomes yet with anxiety you are focussing on the negative outcomes.

There are ways you can support yourself to change the negative thoughts, here are 5 Ways to release anxiety…

5 Ways to release anxiety

1. Let go of the outcome

Stop worrying about what might happen and instead focus on the here and now. Just the smallest of things such as your heart beating, the sound of your breath. The way your feet feel on the floor. Just bring yourself to here and now and trust that you are on the right path.

2. Focus on what you are grateful for

We cannot physically hold a negative emotion at the same time as a positive one. When you focus on what you are grateful for and the good things in life you automatically give yourself a better internal picture and something good to think about. This will support you to not only feel better but also to live a better life. A great way to make this a habit is to journal each morning 3 things you are grateful for.

3. Change up your physiology to release anxiety

Become really aware of how you are moving and what you are doing with your body. Dance! Well, you don’t have to dance, but if you do it will help. Think about how your shoulders are feeling, if you are feeling anxious or down it is most likely that your shoulders are slumped and you are gravitating towards the ground. Pick yourself up and straighten yourself out. Literally. Push your shoulders back, lift up your chin and put a smile on your face! You will be amazed by how much this supports you to change up your emotions rapidly.

4. Place your hand on your heart.

Place your hand on your heart and just breath. Feel your heart beating and ask yourself, “Who am I?” and allow yourself to just be. In my book The Female’s Handbook: Step into your Personal Potential I talk about how you can show up as the best possible version of you just by being you. Checking in with yourself if the most important thing you can do, and if you do this more regular you may find, as I did that your anxiety slows down and may even go completely.

5. Write.

Writing or journaling about why you feel that way you feel can have such an impact on the way you feel, the way you talk to yourself and the way you live your life. You literally take the words you have swimming around in your mind and just write them out on paper. Have a journal by your bed and when you wake up in the morning just write. Write about whatever comes up for you, write about whatever you dream about, whatever you think about and write about the things that excite you, the things that you are passionate about and about a positive and exciting future. This will support you to create your biggest, boldest dreams and live a life filled with passion.
