Meet the girls behind ‘The Dolls House’ Liverpool

There is nothing I love more than seeing women empower women. Especially in the world we are living in today, it is hard enough to be a woman and cope with all we do, we don’t have time to deal with competing with other women. I do truly believe there is room for all of us, and instead of knocking each other down we should work on lifting and celebrating those women (and ourselves) who are working hard and making an impact. And that is just one of the reasons I started following The Dolls House Liverpool girls over on Instagram.

Opened in 2010 and owned by three young, passionate and fearless girls Charlotte, Molly and Amy they have managed to create the unimaginable and have turned their business into a brand that is recognised for being a place not only for women to truly express their creativity but also to inspire so many other women. 

With two salons offering a whole range of treatments including makeup, lashes, nails and hair as well as their accredited make up and gel nail courses, these salons are no ordinary salons, they’re also training academies.

On Sunday I attended one of their make up masterclasses and came away feeling like I could take on anything, because that is the effect these girls can have. The masterclass itself was just over two hours and with cocktails and cupcakes to hand along with a fabulous goody bag to take away it really was the perfect afternoon. Whether you’re an MUA or just someone who is interested in makeup it was well worth the £30 ticket price. Both Charlotte and Molly did separate looks on their models which included dramatic eye makeup and skincare, and both were happy to answer questions throughout. 

I managed to catch up with Charlotte ahead of the make up masterclass for a quick chat and this is what she had to say.

Tell us a bit about yourself, how did you end up with the concept behind The Doll’s House Liverpool?

I’m Charlotte and I’m the co-owner of The Doll’s House. I’ve worked in beauty / makeup for 7 years. When We decided to open up our own salon, We wanted to create an environment full of inspiring, uplifting characters. All of our girls have created the foundation of TDH through their positive vibes and clients love coming. 

What do you offer?

We offer everything! Makeup, nails, hair, lashes, waxing, facials, aesthetics. We offer a huge selection of Beauty courses on our website too.

Do you believe women are becoming as successful in their field just as much as men?

Most definitely, I’m surrounded by loads of them. Women are stepping out of that stereotypical box; Independent women are on the up and it’s amazing to see. 

Who inspires you? 

I can’t put my finger on one particular person, I find inspiration in everyone, family, friends, my Dolls, clients, other makeup artists. It’s so important to surround yourself with people who inspire you and support your goals. I have so many of them kinds of people in my life.

What advice would you give to young girls wanting to open their own business?

Go for it! Have the right intentions and Don’t be scared that it won’t work because if you truly want it then it will. If you fail don’t see it as a setback but a lesson learnt! 

What are your ‘daily struggles’ and how do you overcome them?

I criticise and compare myself a lot. I didn’t know how to manage any of this until I started reading self-development books. Most recently I’ve been reading ‘you’re a badass’ and it’s completely changed my outlook on life and myself. I’m starting to appreciate what I am and what I have. 

What’s next for The Doll’s House?

We’re constantly working on new projects. Our most current one has taken us almost a year of planning & we’re so close to the end that I don’t want to ruin the surprise. You will have to wait and see.
