Autumn, just hearing the word fills my heart with happiness. It really is my absolute favourite time of year and not just because Starbucks is back with the ultimate in coffee (and if you don’t know, we can’t be friends!)
But no, it isn’t just about the Pumpkin Lattes, I use the change in the weather as a kick up the bum to re-look at my skincare regime. So along with that change to our wardrobe, now is the time to switch up your products.
Here are just some of my key tips when switching up your skincare routine this Autumn.
Hydrate your skin
Get into the routine of using face masks or a good quality sheet mask at least once a week, in colder months our skin needs even more hydration than normal. Locking in a mask once a week (or twice if you’re really good!) will help to keep your skin soft and hydrated.
Don’t skip exfoliation
You may be tempted to skip this step in your weekly skincare routine as a lot less skin is on show, but don’t! Exfoliation is still key in those colder months as it helps to get rid of dead skin cells and sebum, yes even in Winter!
Plump your skin with hyaluronic acid
A key ingredient in any skincare routine, hyaluronic acid can be used any time of day to help keep skin plump and hydrated. If you don’t use this already, I insist you purchase one to see the benefits for yourself.
Always make sure your skin is damp on application as it helps to seal in the true benefits of the acid. I recommend the 20% Hyaluronic Ceramide Serum Capsules from Aesthetically Perfect SKIN.
Invest in a good hand cream
Now more so than ever you need to invest in a good hand cream, our hands are exposed on the daily to the elements and they are often one of the things we neglect the most. Invest in a rich hand cream for some extra nighttime moisture and if you want to be really fancy add on some gloves whilst you sleep. If you are currently still working from home or have gone back to the office have one on your desk as it’s a good reminder to keep on with applying throughout the day. For a daytime hand cream opt for a non-greasy variety as this will help not to disrupt your day too much!
Up your moisture
As the colder weather hits, you will notice your skin will become tighter and drier and perhaps your moisturizer from Summer is just not hitting the spot anymore.
If you can, switch to a heavier moisturizer especially for your evening routine and don’t slack on your skincare, ensure you are still using an oil or serum as well as your cream.
For the day if you don’t already, add in facial spray, this is one of my favourite add on products regardless of the time of year. It’s an easy way to add extra moisture to your skin, particularly if it is feeling dry. Facial sprays can be used after cleansing or as a touch up throughout the day.
Now go and enjoy that Pumpkin latte, you wont regret it I promise!
