Ah uni. The place where you can go on nights out, spend your loan on the ‘essentials’ (booze, food and, er, more booze) and- well- try and get some work done. When I started uni two years ago, I couldn’t wait to study my chosen subject, learn more about it and myself and meet all kinds of interesting people…maybe even ‘The One’. It’s safe to say I haven’t met ‘The One’….or anyone. But, instead of this being a sob story (the X Factor give us enough of those!), this is supposed to be an uplifting post on why being single at uni is the best (and sometimes the worst).
Being single in uni means you don’t spend your loan on dates!
Instead of those cute texts from ‘bae’, single students among us feel our hearts flutter when we receive the ‘Your money will arrive in your Bank Account in 3 working days’ text from SFE.
Whilst it would be nice to get a cute text occasionally, single students can take comfort in the fact that- when their loan does come in- you don’t have to spend it on costly date nights.

Being single at uni also means you can concentrate on your work
Though it would be nice to have someone to concentrate on, being single at uni is a good thing because you can put all your energy into your essays, projects and reading.
Or, you can put some of your energy into your work (I won’t tell if you don’t).
2-for-1
Students, single or taken, love to save money. So, no doubt you’ll be signed up to all kinds of websites offering 2-for-1 deals that make you wish you had someone to make 2.
Though it would be nice to have a partner to embrace 2-for-1s, there’s no rule suggesting your 2-for-1 can’t be for you. And there’s nobody to judge you either – YET ANOTHER pro of being single at uni.
You can embrace it
Whilst your mates are loved up and joined to the hip in the club, you can embrace your single status.
So, flirt, fling, do your thing- being single at uni (or anytime) isn’t a burden, it’s a blessing.
Most importantly, before you find someone, you can find yourself. You can study hard, go out, make as many bad decisions as you want.
It’s ok to do you for a while
