One of the questions people always ask, do you need to buy expensive brushes to achieve the perfect makeup application? And the answer is no. To me it is not about how much you spend on your brushes and more about ensuring you’re using the correct brushes in the right way.
The right brush can make a world of difference to your overall makeup look. Here is my handy guide to the best affordable makeup brushes and what you should be using and when!
Eyes
For the perfect eyeshadow you need to be investing in some rounded eye brushes of at least two different sizes and the fluffier the better. Use your smaller fluffy brush for the socket and ensure when blending out around the edges you use your larger fluffy brush, this will help to blend any harsh lines.
And always use a clean brush when changing colours.
Ideal when applying eye liner or adding texture to your brows. Ensure this brush is thin and angled to achieve the perfect flick.
Perfect for applying pigment or glitter, use a small flat brush to pack on the colour, and again ensure if you’re swapping between shades you use a clean brush every time.
Face
I love a kabuki brush, for just how versatile it is. Ideal for buffing highlighter or bronzer on the collarbone or over the body it is the ideal brush to keep in your kit.
Ideal for applying liquid foundation, I do always like to keep one of these brushes in my kit just ensure if you do use a flat brush you blend out the edges around your hair and neckline.
For contour, the flatter and denser the better, as this really helps when contouring the cheeks. Just be sure to blend out any harsh lines.
Ideal for both bronzer and blusher, I like to have these in two different sizes.
For bronzer I always opt for the larger of the two, whereas for blush the smaller of the two works wonders to really work the hollows of your cheeks.
I would not apply my makeup without one. Whether its to apply your foundation or undereye concealer a beauty sponge should be your best friend. Use damp, it helps to blend makeup seamlessly.
A brush that’s often forgotten about but equally important for a flawless application is the small angled lip brush. If you’re not great at applying your lipstick or you’re working on someone else’s face a lip brush is a must!
