Ensana Buxton Crescent Hotel
Buxton Crescent stands as a captivating reincarnation, weaving together the tales of two once-grand hotels that were revered as the pinnacle retreats for the chic spa enthusiasts of Georgian England. Drawing visitors from across the nation, these establishments were a sanctuary for those seeking repose in the therapeutic thermal waters of Buxton.
At the heart of the Fifth Duke of Devonshire’s vision to establish a fashionable Georgian spa town in Buxton, the Grade I-listed Crescent emerges as a beacon of architectural brilliance, solidifying its status as one of the most significant buildings in the country.
This luxurious hotel, a testament to elegance, offers accommodation adorned with every modern comfort. With 80 exquisitely furnished bedrooms and suites, it caters to the expectations of contemporary travelers. Echoing the opulence of a bygone era, the adjacent spa seamlessly blends modern amenities with a gracious hospitality that defines the essence of the Buxton experience.
The Room: Crescent Suite
Enveloped in the timeless embrace of Buxton Crescent, our sojourn in the Crescent Suite was a revelation in luxury and charm. From the moment we stepped into the suite, it felt like stepping into a haven where history seamlessly intertwines with contemporary indulgence.
Original features, including the captivating fireplaces, lent an air of authenticity to the modern ambiance. The suite’s design thoughtfully showcased views across the picturesque Buxton Slopes, providing a scenic backdrop that painted the perfect setting for our getaway.
The pièce de résistance of the Crescent Suite was undeniably the statement four poster bed – a regal centerpiece that promised not just a night’s sleep but an experience in opulence. The spacious living area beckoned us to unwind, offering a retreat within a retreat where relaxation was the only agenda.
Luxury unfolded in the form of a roll-top bath, an invitation to indulge and savour the moment. As we immersed ourselves in the warm embrace of the tub, sipping champagne and soaking in the atmosphere, the Crescent Suite transformed into a sanctuary of indulgence.
The attention to detail was evident in every corner, making it clear that the Crescent Suite was more than just a room; it was an experience curated for those seeking the epitome of comfort and extravagance. The Thermal Spa Facilities
Immersing myself in the modern spa at Ensana Buxton Crescent was nothing short of a rejuvenating escape, a sanctuary of calm and tranquility awaiting after a day of exploration or leisure. The spa not only exceeded expectations but also served as a testament to the hotel’s commitment to offering a holistic and luxurious experience.
The highlight of the spa was undoubtedly the pool area, a haven of relaxation and rejuvenation. The indoor to outside rooftop pool was a marvel, seamlessly blending the boundaries between the tranquil indoors and the refreshing outdoors. It was a unique experience, especially with the two integrated jacuzzi zones that added an extra layer of luxury. Regardless of the weather, the heated outdoor area allowed for an invigorating swim under the open sky.
My personal favourite was the relaxation pool, a serene oasis adorned with a midnight starry ceiling. The ambiance created the perfect cocoon for tranquility, offering a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life. It was a space where time seemed to slow down, allowing me to truly unwind.
The thermal pool, with its infusion of Buxton’s mineral-rich water, was a distinctive touch that added to the overall therapeutic experience. The lack of chemical treatment allowed for a natural and soothing soak, surrounded by original wall tiles dating back to 1924 – a nod to the spa’s rich history.
The bio sauna offered a unique blend of sauna and steam, providing a comfortable experience at 60 degrees Celsius. This treatment not only induced relaxation but also stimulated sweating, aiding in the expulsion of toxins and impurities from the skin, enhancing its oxygenation.
The ice fountain, a refreshing interlude after the heat experiences, worked wonders in invigorating the body’s systems, promoting blood circulation, and encouraging lymphatic drainage. The contrasting temperatures left me feeling revitalised and ready to embrace the next phase of my spa journey.
In essence, the thermal spa facilities at Buxton Crescent went beyond being a mere amenity; they were an integral part of the hotel’s commitment to providing a unique and holistic luxury experience. Each element, from the pools to the sauna and beyond, contributed to a symphony of relaxation and well-being, leaving me thoroughly pampered and rejuvenated.
Spa Treatment: Himalayan Salt Massage
As part of our gifted PR spa day package, we were given the option to choose one treatment from the list – my choice was the Himalayan Salt Massage, an ancient ritual promising a harmonious blend of rejuvenation and detoxification.
The treatment commenced with the warmth of Himalayan salt blocks, gently massaged over my entire body. This ritual bestowed a gentle exfoliation, revealing the immediate sensation of intense minerals working their magic to detoxify my body. The soothing heat emanating from the salt blocks added an extra layer of relaxation, effortlessly alleviating tension, stress, and anxiety.
As the treatment progressed, an exhilarating salt scrub unfolded – a dance of precious pink Himalayan Salt and nourishing aromatic oil. This combination not only detoxified my body but also worked wonders in easing aches and pains. The aromatic essence filled the air, stimulating my senses and transporting me to a realm of tranquility.
The holistic benefits of the Himalayan Salt Massage extended beyond the physical. It was a ritual designed to stimulate the metabolism, restoring vitality and balance to both body and mind. The ancient wisdom encapsulated in this treatment became evident as each moment unfolded, leaving me in a state of profound relaxation.
The Himalayan Salt Massage at Buxton Crescent was more than a spa treatment; it was a journey through time and tradition, a fusion of ancient rituals and modern luxury. It underscored the hotel’s commitment to offering not just treatments but transformative experiences, leaving me with a renewed sense of well-being and a desire to explore more of the spa’s enchanting offerings.
Dining in the Restaurant
The restaurant, encapsulating the essence of “Classic British cuisine with an international flair,” proved to be a gastronomic haven. The menu, rooted in a commitment to local and seasonal produce, was a testament to the hotel’s dedication to culinary excellence. With a three-course meal included in our package, the anticipation was high, and the experience did not disappoint.
For my starter, I opted for the roasted pumpkin dish – a culinary masterpiece that showcased the artistry of the chef. The rich, earthy flavours of the pumpkin, expertly prepared and presented, set the stage for what was to follow.
The main course featured stone bass paired with a delectable risotto, a symphony of textures and tastes that exemplified the culinary finesse of the kitchen. The freshness of the ingredients and the meticulous preparation were evident in every bite, elevating the dining experience to a level of true indulgence.
Dessert, the grand finale, was a salted caramel cheesecake that proved to be the perfect conclusion to this culinary symphony. The balance of sweet and salty, combined with the velvety texture of the cheesecake, left a lasting impression and satisfied my sweet tooth in the most exquisite manner.
The overarching theme of “outstanding” perfectly encapsulates the dining experience at Buxton Crescent’s restaurant. Pooles Cavern
Our exploration of Buxton’s local treasures continued with a captivating visit to Poole’s Cavern, a geological wonder nestled in the heart of the town – just a 5 minute drive from the hotel. We got lucky with a personal guided tour heightening the experience, providing us with insights and anecdotes that brought the cavern’s history to life.
