Everything you need to know about Face Acids & why they are key for skincare

There are two types of people when it comes to skincare: those that are on the acid bandwagon or those that are firmly off it. And I think it stems from the word acid. I mean really? Who wants to put face acids on their skin?

ME!

And I’m here to tell you why, and what face acids you should be using for your skin type.

Choosing the best face acids for your skin

Did you know that there face acids for every skin type and concern?

All acids have their benefits but its important to know which is best for you before you start messing around with your skin.

Glycolic Acid

Glycolic acid is a type of AHA (alpha-hydroxy acid) and one of the structurally simplest (but effective) face acids on the market at the moment.

By breaking down the top layer of the skin, this gentle face acid penetrates to even out skin tone and sunspots as well as treating acne, reducing fine lines and brightening the skin.

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid is an absolute all rounder and a great place to start.

Salicylic Acid

Suitable for oily or acne prone skin, this popular face acid works to exfoliate the skin, clear out the pores and treats breakouts whilst building the collagen up in your skin.

It works to reduce sebum, redness and inflammation, so if you’re suffering with any of that a salicylic acid is key.

This is one of the face acids you should use if you’re suffering from clogged pores, but if you suffer with dry skin its one to avoid.

Lactic Acid

Lactic acid is the perfect choice for you if you’re suffering from acne scarring as it gently exfoliates the skin whilst speeding up cell turnover.

It also increases moisture in the skin and although its not known for anti-ageing its great if you suffer with sensitive or dehydrated skin.

If you have pigmentation or age spots adding a lactic acid into your evening routine will help to minimize both of these.

Hyaluronic Acid

My absolute favourite (and the least scary!) this face acid helps to remove dead skin cells and has the capacity to retain large amounts of moisture. Not only that, but it helps to strengthen the skins barrier leaving you with softer, plumper and smoother skin – and who doesn’t want that?
