Holidays with the kids are… daunting. And I’m being pretty fucking polite there. Yeah, holidays and kids are something that many parents fear – not to mention City Breaks, which have the added worry that the kids will be bored and therefore even more of a handful. But luckily there are loads of cities that are totally great for children and adults alike, and here are three of my favourite family friendly city breaks.
Visiting Amsterdam with children
I know what you’re thinking, but honestly; there’s so much more to the Netherlands’ famous capital city than just coffeeshops and the Red Light District! Actually, between the food, the history and the outdoors; Amsterdam is a kid’s paradise!
Explore the iconic canals on two wheels by renting bikes as a family, get your sugar fix with some delicious Belgian waffles whilst overlooking the gorgeous tulips and enjoy a well-earned coffee overlooking Vondelpark whilst the kids burn off some energy on the playground! If your kids are budding scientists, explore the NEMO Science Museum (trust me, the roof-top area has waterfalls, palm trees and urban beaches that the kids will love!) Alternatively, if your kids prefer history at school, Anne Frank’s House is another must-see attraction!
Visiting Paris with children
Whilst the city of love means visiting landmarks, shopping and wine overlooking the Eiffel Tower for loved-up couples, for kids Paris offers a whole different experience for kids; DISNEYLAND. It’s pricey, I’ll admit, but the infamous Disneyland Paris is the perfect place to spend a day out of your city break if you want to keep the kids happy. Between the thrilling rides, character meets at every corner, and loads of delicious junk food, your kids will be in heaven!
That said, there are still a huge amount of family-friendly to-do in the city itself for families with children. The view from the top of the Eiffel Tower is awe-inspiring even for the tiniest of eyes and a Chocolate Tasting Tour at Saint-Germain-des-Pres is certainly not going to go a-miss.
Visiting Rome with children
Finally, all roads really do lead to Rome when it comes to travelling as a family! As well as being a great cultural experience for adults, a trip to the Vatican will please any little history lovers, whilst the Colosseum is perfect for little gladiators among you! And regular breaks for gelato and pizza will keep even the grumpiest of tiny travellers happy day-to-night!
