Let’s face it, we’ve all been dying for a drink lately… what with everything that’s been going on and that. So when we got the invite to go and experience Five Liverpool, Seel Street’s new rooftop bar, for their grand opening with a few socially distance cocktails – who were we to turn it down?
The new bar was created in collaboration between Epic and Mason’s, is located on Seel Street is accessible through Mason’s fifth floor – fifth floor… Five… get it?
A rooftop bar is only as good as its view, and Five does not disappoint in that regard. A gorgeous cityscape that includes both St Luke’s (the bombed out church to the likes of you and me) and the Liverpool Cathedral – which absolutely towers above everything else and makes you realise just how amazingly grand that structure actually is.
The design of the bar is simple and chic. Comfy grey seating with tables and some massive parasols in case the weather takes a turn for the worse – otherwise known as British summer ‘doing its thing’. While the weather wasn’t necessarily bad that night – more of the same overcast nonsense July has been serving us – it’s not hard to imagine this bar being absolute heaven when the sun is cracking the flags.
If the view wasn’t enough of a treat, we also got to try out some of their mouth-watering appetisers. From the Mason’s kitchen, we got to sample some of their salt and pepper chicken slides, mini salmon and haddock fishcakes and cream cheese bruschetta with pomegranates. Couple that with a few aperitifs and you could get used to that life.
I will definitely be back when the sun comes back around (please god let it be soon) because this is the perfect place for a mid-afternoon spritz gazing over the skyline. This is exactly the kind of place to lift your spirits after being cooped up in the house for so long.
Five is open from 10am Friday to Sunday, with Mason’s and Epic guests receiving priority booking. This exclusive new hangout is strictly by reservation only, though, so be sure to phone ahead or DM them before you decide to turn up. Keep an eye on the weather forecast and bag yourself a space the moment you spot a scorcher on the way!
