The first thing you need to know about the full moon, is that it draws cycles to a close. So, your full moon rituals should be focused around reflection. Now is the time to look back over the last month and focus on what you’ve done. Where have you been? How have you spent your time. What goals have you achieved?
This is a great time to shift focus onto what’s worth letting go of, and what’s worth clinging on to?
Full moon rituals come in a variety of different forms, and there’s no right or wrong way to utilise this period of energy. Your full moon celebration might include spells and journaling, or simply a moment to reflect.
But don’t forget to use this time to recharge and revel in calm for a brief moment. You’ll need to conserve your energy for the next new moon, it’ll be here before you know it.

Full moon rituals to try this lunar cycle
In paganism, the full moon is a time where one’s psychic energy increases. This makes it agood time to harness the power of your own intentions with some full moon rituals, but you don’t necessarily need to identify as a pagan or spiritualist to benefit from the good vibes of theseason.
Anything you do during the full phase of the moon can be considered a ritual, as long as you do it with intention.
This could be somethng as simple as making your coffee, and stirring clockwise to invoke positivity, or anti clockwise to banish negativity!
Charge your crystals
The full moon is all about bringing our intentions and emotions to the forefront. This allows us to process them, heal what we need to heal and ultimately, let go.
So, the light of a full moon is absolutely perfect to charge and cleanse your crystals.
One popular way to charge crystals is to start by cleansing them. A natural water source like a river or a stream is perfect, but the bathroom tap works just fine too!
Then set them out on the earth for their full moon ritual bath.
If you can’t place them outside, a windowsill will work. The next day, allow them to continue to charge for a few hours in morning sunlight.
But don’t forget about them. Many crystals like Amethyst, Citrine and Rose Quartz will fade in direct sunlight, so don’t leave them out for too long.
Take a moon bath
If you can, get outside and let the moonlight touch your skin. Just like the way our bodies need the Vitamin D from sunlight, many people believe that we also benefit from the ‘rays’ of the moonlight.
Imagine your body absorbing the energy of the full moon. Bask in it for a few minutes, and use this time to set some intentions.
Journalling
The full moon is a great time to journal. You could start by writing about things that are currently on your mind.
Maybe something you are working toward achieving? Or maybe something you are struggling with at the moment?
Once you have all of your thoughts written down try to organise them a little. Look at the things that are positive and take some time to be grateful.
Notice any negative thoughts and think about ways in which you can reduce these things or minimise the struggle. And try to consciously allow yourself and your mind to let go of things that you can’t change.
Some people like to burn their journal entries, with the sumbolic ritual of doing do clearing the path for new blessings to enter. But do whatever feels right for you.
Full moon spells
If you’re new to the magic of the full moon, here’s a really lovely little spell that will harness the energy of the this phase of the lunar cycle for whatever purpose you wish.
Do this full moon spell at night under it’s light. Next to a window is fine, but outside is even better. You’ll need:
- A clear jar
- Water
- A silver coin
- A bell
- A Candle
Fill the jar with water and light your candle. Then sit under the full moon and take a few minutes to breathe. When you feel the time is right, drop your silver coin into the water and wait for the water to settle.
Sit so that the reflection of the full moon in the water seems to sit right on top of the coin, (you might have to move around a bit for this.)
Gazing at the reflection on the coin, ring the bell three times and speak your wish out loud. Keep the coin in the jar until the next morning, (or until your wish has come true!)
How to make moon water
The ritual of making moon water under a full moon is really easy. All you need is a mason jar, (or any container with a lid) and water from your tap.
Fill your container with tap water and place it outside in the direct line of the moon light overnight. As you set it down, spend a minute or two just considering your intentions for the lunar cycle ahead.
In the morning collect the jar and use your moon water however you wish!
Some things you can do with moon water include:
- Drink it. Taking a sip or two everyday, (or, if you’re having a rough time maybe down the lot?) reminding yourself of your intentions and letting the energy from the moon revitalise you.
- Cleanse your crystals with it – crystals are said to absorb all types of energy, so bathing them in your moon water should give them a refresh and help to amplify their power.
- Use it in your skincare routine – I’m not suggesting that moon water is going to cure acne any time soon, but putting your moon water into a spray bottle to use as a toner each evening can be a powerful manifestation technique, and a great way to remind yourself of your intentions each day.
Crystals to use under a full moon
Of course, the full moon is a brilliant time to cleanse all of your crystals. But if you’re working on particular full moon rituals, meditations or spells there are some crystals that have powerful qualities to support you during this lunar phase.
Selenite
Selenite is named after the Lunar Goddess, Selene. Which gives you some insight into its profound connection with the moon’s energy.
Additionally, Selenite is known for being a crystal that radiates light, peace and positivity. The Full Moon is known to bring up fears and insecurities. Selenite can be used to help you to process these thoughts and release any negativity.
Moonstone
As the name might suggest, Moonstone is also closely connected to the lunar energy. It is said to support Divine Feminine qualities of intuition, psychic ability, and flowing with grace and ease.
Moonstone is also thought to help bring up what has been hidden in the shadow with the light of the Full Moon. By helping to illuminate the darkness so that you can release what’s been troubling you and move forward.
Amethyst
And finally, Amethyst has powerful ability to transmute lower emotions such as negativity, fear and insecurity into the light. Making it another really useful crystal during times of reflection or for use during full moon rituals.
