Summer (when we see it) is a wonderful time; light nights, tanned skin and people generally in a happier mood. But do you know what I don’t like? My carefully applied make up melting off my face before lunchtime. Here are a few of my top tips for keeping your skin looking fresh even when the heat is working against you.
Start with your skincare
Stick to an oil free moisturizer where possible and always apply a light layer of a good SPF.
If you are adding foundation on top, again opt for an oil free foundation or even better a lightweight tinted moisturizer.
I for one am not brave enough to go completely bare faced unless I am on holiday so a few of my favourites are: MAC pro Longwear waterproof or NARS all day luminous powder foundation.
Whichever you choose you need a sweat proof foundation to combat any oil or shine.
Glow up with bronzer
Who doesn’t want that skin kissed look?
Everyone looks better with added warmth to their face. It makes your teeth look whiter and your skin brighter … what’s not to love?
The key to the perfect bronzed look, don’t go overboard. Only apply bronzer where the sun naturally catches your face. Cheekbones, forehead and along your nose and chin.
If you’re wearing a vest or low-cut top don’t forget to sweep a dusting of bronzer over your décolletage.
My favourite bronzer is MAC ‘give me sun’ however there is plenty of purse friendly bronzers available from NYX, Maybelline and Rimmel.
Summer make up: Forget the shimmer
Everyone, I included love that dewy fresh make up look.
However, summer and those hot days are the one time you need to rethink how much highlighter/shimmer you are using as that fresh dewy look we love in Spring can and up looking oil slicked in Summer.
Go waterproof
Try and swap some of your make up pieces for waterproof ones. Especially mascara and you will avoid those panda eyes and clumpy lashes!
Loreal and Lancome have some great choices of not only waterproof mascara but also brow gels and eyeliners.
Swap your lipsticks
For lip stains or balms, ideal if your lipstick tends to slip in hot weather.
Even in this weather you do need to keep your lips nourished, so I tend to opt for a lip stain.
My favourites are Bobbi Brown extra lip tint which come in a range of different colours.
My final note… don’t forget your setting spray! More so now than ever! This helps to keep your make up staying put whatever the weather.
