Heatproof makeup tips for the perfect summer time glow

We’ve all been there, perfectly applied makeup inside the house, step outside on a hot day and an hour later your make up is halfway down your face.

So, what can you do to for heatproof makeup and keep it looking freshly applied, and is it the products or the application?

Spoiler…it’s a bit of both.

Here are just a few of the tips I have gathered over the years to help keep my makeup application looking good even on those hot summer days.

Swap to a light moisturizer

And more importantly, apply and leave enough time for it to truly sink in before you apply anything on top. I tend to apply my moisturizer and then go and make myself my morning coffee so it has time to truly absorb into my skin. It’s important not to skip this step as tempting as it may be when its warm, because your skin still needs to be hydrated and smooth before you apply your makeup.

Don’t skip your primer

Again, you may be tempted to do this but try not too as a primer is key to keeping your make up in place. The job of a primer is to act as base for any makeup to grab onto. It truly does keep your makeup locked in place for longer. Use a brush to apply your primer rather than your fingers which can hold extra oil, which will then be transferred onto your skin.

Keep things to a minimum

As much as you may want to pile the products on as you would do in the winter months its ideal if you can strip your makeup routine back. Let your natural beauty shine through without covering with foundation. If you must add a base switch to a lighter foundation, tinted moisturizer or BB cream. You can still apply your concealer if you have any blemishes you want to cover.

The summer months are the perfect opportunity to show off those freckles, or if you don’t have them and want them use a brown eyeliner dotted across your nose to give the illusion of sun kissed freckles. Smudge in with a beauty blender for that natural look.

Set your face in layers

As tempting as it may be to pile on the setting powder especially to those shiny areas you are better building up with lighter layers, so only apply more powder as and when you need it and use a light dusting of powder.

Blotting papers are also a good alternative to keep in your handbag for days where you are out and about.

Add a liquid blush

Opt for a liquid or cream blush over a powder in the warmer weather, these will sit much better on your skin and stay in place over a powder which could end up streaking (not a great look) I would also avoid adding a highlight on top if your prone to oily or shiny skin. Instead add a pop of colour to your lips to give you a finished makeup look.

And finish with a setting spray.

I hope you find these tips useful for heatproof makeup and if you have any more let me know.
