I’m an accessories girl through and through. My first job was actually at Accessorize where we had to wear at least five accessories at all times and I think that’s what kick started my obsession.
But fast forward a couple of decades years later and I still firmly believe no outfit is complete without a few accessories to give it that unique touch. Especially in summer when you can finally take your big coat off and show a bit of skin!
No matter whether it’s a pair of designer sunglasses or a beaded anklet you got from the local market, adding a few summer accessories to your outfit is the easiest way to feel like you’ve made an effort, even when all you’re doing is getting a croissant from the all you can eat breakfast buffet.
Here’s a few of my favourite holiday accessories to pack in your suitcase for this years getaway:
Green Onyx Eternity Stacking Ring
This beaut of a ring from Fool’s Gold dropped onto my doormat just before I flew off to Mykonos and it was just as well because I wore it every single day! The green gemstones just went with every outfit and it looked so much more expensive than it is. As a stacking ring or worn alone, I think it’s the perfect holiday accessory for a simple denim shorts and strappy top outfit where you don’t want to go too OTT but you just need something little to bring it all together.
I mostly wore it when I was sunbathing round the pool paired with a bikini and sarong because when the sun catches the stones it’s just stunning. It was also really comfortable to wear as an all day ring as there’s no stones standing out and catching on things.
Fun fact – green onyx is believed to possess various healing properties including improving physical stamina and boosting self confidence!
Blue Purple Contour Silk Scarf
When I first saw this scarf from Pashmisy I was blown away by how striking the colours and pattern are! It’s also much bigger than I was expecting and as it’s made from 100% Italian satin silk it’s incredibly soft and lightweight; once I had a bit of a tan in Mykonos I wore it to the beach club as a bandeau top as I knew no one else would have anything like it.
It was so versatile I also used it as a headscarf when we rode our mopeds into town later that day and then tied it to the handle of my bag to elevate my outfit for the evening.
I’m not usually a colour girl at all but something about the purple and blues with the pops of red just feels so summery and unique, and I absolutely love the fact it’s handcrafted in Como; the renowned Silk City of Italy! A summer accessory with a story? Yes please!
Shooting Star Drop Earrings
If there’s one holiday accessory you absolutely must pack it’s a pair of dangly earrings and this pair from Fool’s Gold in particular ticks all my boxes. The highly polished gold vermeil stars catch the light beautifully so they stand out day or night, whether you’ve got your hair up or down.
I tend to wear dangly earrings for special occasions or nights out but I loved the minimalist design of these so much I ended up wearing them in the airport as well!
They’re so versatile I’m even packing them for a music festival this summer; they would go perfectly with messy space buns, a crochet mini dress and Hunter wellies! Definitely an unexpected summer accessory staple for me now.
Denim Linen Summer Shawl
I’d never considered a shawl as a holiday accessory staple before but I remember my mum always brought one on holiday and now I’m starting to understand why! They’re perfect as a sarong, for covering up in the sun when you’ve got a little too burnt, and for draping round you in the evening when the temperature drops, not to mention the many many ways you can utilise a shawl when you’ve got little ones in tow!
This shawl from Pashmisy has a special place in my suitcase because the beautiful light denim colour goes with absolutely everything! The quality is incredible; light weight enough that you can drape it round you when nipping in somewhere for lunch yet substantial enough that it keeps the chill off when you’re heading out later in the day.
I really love the laidback look of the linen as well (all handwoven in Italy no less!) which keeps it looking relaxed but timeless and elegant at the same time.
Amozonite Flag Choker Necklace
If there’s one piece of jewellery that is guaranteed to get people asking ‘where did you get that?’ it’s this choker necklace! It’s a real statement look but still manages to be subtle at the same time.
I’m usually a plain gold or silver girl but the green/blue of the flags is such an unusual colour I found myself pairing it with all my basic black, white, beige tops and dresses to give them an extra pop.
Again, this is another one from Fool’s Gold that I’ll definitely be wearing to a festival as the flags just say ‘Sienna Miller at Glastonbury’ to me!
Initialled Necklace and Rings
I have a couple of Initialled’s handcrafted gold rings now and I find them so easy to wear as they’re completely waterproof and tarnish free. I got the ‘GRACIE’ initial signet ring to wear on my wedding ring finger on holiday because taking a diamond engagement ring away with you is a bit problematic if you’re in and out of the pool the whole time. It’s nice and slim so I can stack it with other rings and it’s also got a lovely shine to it so picks up the light in photos.
And then I have the ‘CELESTE’ signet ring that I’ve started wearing day to day as it’s the only chunky gold ring I own but I’ve fallen in love with how it looks with everything! It makes every outfit I own look that little bit cooler. You can get both rings handstamped with an initial so are ideal presents for pretty much any event but I think they’d be so cute as bridesmaids gifts!
My absolute favourite piece from Initialled though is their 18k gold vermeil ‘SOLEIL’ beaded initial necklace. I got it initialled with a ‘C’ for Claire and I haven’t taken it off since the day I put it on! The 18 inch chain is the perfect length to sit comfortably over the neckline of tops but it’s also fully adjustable. There’s no twizzling round and sometimes I forget I’m even wearing it because it’s super smooth, flat and lightweight. It has an incredible shine to it so gives all my outfits a bit of a dressier edge even if I’m just in shorts and a tee, and I love the intricate beading detail for something a bit different.
If you’re searching for unique holiday accessories this summer, be sure to explore the summer collections from small UK businesses. There’s nothing quite like receiving a beautifully wrapped, handcrafted item with a story behind it!
