One of the questions I get asked a lot is How to make lipstick last all day?
And although a lot of the time that can come down to which product you are using there are some key tips I suggest to help keep your lipstick in place for longer.
Always use a lipliner
For me wearing a lipstick without a liner would be like wearing shoes without socks. An absolute no from me.
Not only does a liner help give the illusion of a much fuller lip, but you can also use the liner to colour in your lips before you apply your lipstick. In doing so you are giving your lipstick a base, something to grab onto to keep in place along with minimizing the risk of your lipstick bleeding onto your skin.
Prep your lips like you would your skin
If you are suffering with dry or flaky skin on your lips your lipstick will not sit well so prep your lips using a lip scrub topped with a lip balm to remove this before applying anything else to your lips.
This will help keep your lipstick where it should for as long as possible.
Set with powder
This is by far my best tip for keeping your pout exactly where it needs to be and if you don’t have a pot of translucent powder already you need to invest. Once you have applied your lipstick, blot with a thin piece of tissue, grab a clean brush and add some powder on top. Not only does this make your lipstick last longer but leaves a matte finish which will stop the lipstick from smudging.
Layer your lipstick with a brush
A lip brush gives a much more precise finish along with much more control as to where you are applying your colour. A lip brush is ideal when using a bright shade. Applying in layers rather straight off the bullet will ensure your lipstick lasts much longer.
My all-time favourite lipsticks with long lasting staying power are:
Matte range from Mac Cosmetics, their matte formula is second to none for long-lasting wear.
Pillowtalk from Charlotte Tilbury, probably their most iconic lip shade, paired with lipstick this beauty doesn’t budge for hours.
For a more budget-friendly lipstick with added staying power try the Matte lip paint range from Barry M, they apply super smooth and set to a strong matte finish.
