Liverpool Restaurants: Red Dog Saloon

Sunday is a day of rest. Typically, because you’re usually hanging out your ass from drinking far too much the night before. If you’re one of the lucky ones who can physically make it out of bed when you’re dreadfully hungover, then you’ll be struck down by the second stage of the hangover: an almighty hunger that needs sorting by any means necessary. But thanks to Red Dog Liverpool’s new ‘Whole Hog Sundays’ we might have a new miracle cure on our hands.

Red Dog Liverpool is a BBQ restaurant located slap bang in the middle of bold street. Perfect location for a post-shopping refuel. I stress the ‘post’ part of that sentence, because believe me, you won’t want to be doing much more walking after finishing off a meal here.

Red Dog Liverpool: Sunday Menu

Their Sunday deal is what we opted for last weekend. This deal is the hog, the whole hog and nothing but the hog. An absolute smorgasbord of mouth-watering BBQ food (with all the trimmings) that is sure to delight anyone with a hankering for something meaty.

What’s included in this deal is *deep breath*… hickory smoked chopped pork shoulder, St Louis cut ribs, hot links (that’s a sausage to the likes of you or me), coleslaw, pickles, sliced white onions, fries, Carolina style BBQ sauce and a burger bun to stick everything in the middle of and chow down to your hearts content.

It was a biblical experience. I’m not usually one for ordering ribs and other finger foods in a restaurant because nine times out of ten I will make an absolute show of myself while eating them. This time wasn’t even that one time out of ten, but you know what, I don’t even care. They were THAT good. They were kind enough to provide plenty of napkins for when you snap back to reality and realise you have to be a human being again.

If that wasn’t enough (it was, we nearly died) you are also treated to bottomless iced tea. None of this Lipton’s shite. Proper iced tea. The kind that transports you to the deep south, going back and forth on a porch swing on a hot midsummer afternoon… and in the distance, banjos.

After dealing with a metric ton of smoked goodness, you’d have thought that was me done for the day, right? Turn’s out I wasn’t done with Red Dog Liverpool’s menu, because I’d hoped so too until someone threw a dessert menu under my nose that was too good for my fat ass to pass up.

We went with the ice cream sundae: vanilla, strawberry and chocolate ice cream with some whipped cream and chocolate brownie pieces thrown on top. Woof.

A good time was had by all at the Red Dog Saloon on Sunday and I’ll certainly be going back when I next get a craving for something good and smokey.
