An exciting addition to Liverpool’s restaurant scene, Mamasan bar and brasserie.
Mamasan’s premium experiential dining concept captures the true essence of modern South East Asia; elevated with the best of Great Britain’s produce from farm, field and sea.
We were invited down for an evening to review the full Mamasan experience and taste the tempting menu on offer…
The Vibe:
Mamasan sits across three-floors in Liverpool ONE (previously Wahaca) on an ultra-chic dining concept featuring striking interiors, a vibrant culinary offering, and an expansive urban-garden roof terrace.
The venue has been completely transformed and Mamasan’s spirit flows throughout the space, from a floating floral adorned staircase that spans the building to a unique, high caliber sound system that’s inspired by Japanese listening bars.
The Drinks:
Mamasan has an extensive drinks menu, from sparkly cocktails to traditional Japanese beers; there’s something for everyone. After seeing the Prosecco Fizz on their Instagram I had to try it, I also tried the Watermelon Pop cocktail and the other half opted for an Asahi draught and a bottle of Hitachino.
The Starter:
As a recently transitioned vegan, I was pleasantly surprised to see so many tempting plant based options! I tried the root vegetable spring rolls and Phil tried the Lobster tail and prawn toast.
The Main:
I’m usually someone who plays it safe with restaurant choices, but since making the switch to Vegan I’ve been trying so many new foods and thought I’d take a risk on something I would never normally order; the roasted Peach Massaman Curry (smoked peach, charred new potatoes, aubergine and courgette) and the OH ordered Jungle curry of langoustine, salmon and tiger prawns.
As the mains don’t come with sides, we ordered a portion of jasmine rice and sauteed asian greens to share – and after seeing the next table being served the ‘dirty thai fries’ we had to order those too! I was worried we’d ordered too much food (something we often do) but both having big appetites it was the perfect amount of food split between two people.
Desserts:
My favourite part of any meal. There are four options to choose from on the dessert menu; the oolong tea and lychee tiramisu, marbeled Black sesame cheesecake, coconut and peanut chocolate delice and the nashi pear sticky toffee pudding.
All four of the desserts sounded absolutely amazing. We opted for the cheesecake and delice (vegan option for me), both desserts tasted as stunning as they looked!
