Masons Liverpool opens with a bang

Given Anne was enjoying a week in the Cotswolds, Trish and I ventured into town without her to discover a little more about Masons Liverpool, and in particular, their Christmas menu.

We were instantly impressed by the informal, spacious interior with it’s clean modern lines yet warm inviting atmosphere. Apparently, the building Masons is housed in was shortlisted for a Northern Design award, the only one to date in Liverpool.

Hat’s off to the lovely PR gals, Jade and Georgia for their warm reception and for totally spoiling everyone; they couldn’t have been more attentive!

THE OWNERS OF MASON’S LIVERPOOL AND THEIR ETHOS

Simon and Fiona Beer, the owners of the Epic Group, recently branched out in July 2019 into the restaurant business with the launch of Mason’s. Their intention was to create a welcoming, all inclusive community restaurant, with a strong focus on communal dining, hence the creation of their Christmas and Sunday roast sharing/party menu, which we would be sampling.

NB. There are a variety of other menus that cater for all dietary needs, including vegan/veggie.

THE DRINKS

Along with a variety of wine, spiced rum bramble and gin fizz cocktails flowed all evening. The wine was smooth and mellow and those cocktails were simply heavenly!

THE FOOD

A steady rotation of finger foods kept us more than happy. Trish enjoyed the Sesame chicken, fish with tartare sauce, stuffing balls and sausages, while I savoured the delightful vegan bruschetta and tempura cauliflower.

THE CHATTER

As always the conversation flowed and as ever, was varied. Trish and I are homeless people magnets and usually end up having the group hugs/chats/getting rinsed etc on the way home from our outings. We could literally write a book re their heartbreaking stories and torturous life experiences.

This time the group hug with a homeless guy happened as soon as we stepped foot from the station. We met a delightful chap from Sri Lanka, an ardent Roman Catholic, called Christopher. His favourite, and probably, only possession, apart from the clothes he stood up in is his St Christopher’s medal.

Homelessness seemed to be a common theme as we discovered that a key member of staff at Mason’s was also once homeless!

The majority of the evening was spent chatting to Andy, a guy staying in the hotel above Mason’s. He’s living there for a few months while waiting for his new apartment to be ready, one he hasn’t even seen! Given his disabilities and daily battles to survive, it was inspirational witnessing his positivity and optimistic outlook on life.

We all really do need to stop complaining and count our blessings!

We loved the inclusive community ethic.

AND FINALLY….

Would we go again? A resounding yes!

Our only quibble was that no desserts appeared. It would have been nice to sample a few.
