A lot of things have been put on pause since Christmas including our beauty appointments, that If like me you never usually miss!
The idea of having no routine being the new routine is quite frankly depressing, but it doesn’t have to be! Taking the time now whilst you can, save some pennies whilst letting our natural self have some breathing space from treatments can be a good thing.
One of those being your nails.
Whilst its pretty much impossible (for me at least) to achieve the perfect gel nails from home you can take this time to strengthen and grow your nails ready for lockdown to end.
I caught up with nail expert Lily Horrocks who gave us some tips for looking after our nails during lockdown.
Tell us a bit about yourself, how did you end up with the concept behind your business? And what do you offer?
Hi! I’m Lily Horrocks I am 20 years old and I am a nail technician from Liverpool. I have always had a passion for art and got high grades in photography and art in school, so thought I would use my artistic skills and start a business in nails and get creative with it!
The main thing I offer is nail art, however I am qualified in lash lifts and makeup aswell!
How do you feel now we have entered into another lockdown, how do you keep yourself motivated?
The 3rd lockdown for a small business is really tough and I have struggled keeping a positive mindset, however I like to stay active on my business account interact with my followers so we still stay connected and have our chats that we usually would have at our appointments ! I also go for daily walks and have developed a passion for fitness to keep me feeling good and motivated.
What tips and advice can you offer nail care at home during lockdown?
I would say if you still have your nails on, soak them off in a safe and non-harmful way so your nails stay healthy and long ready for your next appointment, acetone left to soak so your gel nails have time to soften and file off easy, is the best way instead of pulling them off and leaving your nail beds sensitive and prone to snapping!

What are your ‘daily struggles’ and how do you overcome them?
Daily struggles when I’m working are making sure I don’t fall behind and keep up with my diary, regarding lockdown I would say just seeing light at the end of this tunnel and keeping my business as strong as possible in such uncertain times.
What is next for you?
Ultimately I would like to extend my business, continue to learn new things. Becoming a nail art teacher or my own shop would be the dream!
