The Ultimate Glow-Up Gadget: Current Body LED Light Therapy Face Mask Review

If you’re a skincare fanatic or, like me, just someone who loves trying out the latest beauty gadgets, you’ll definitely have heard all about red light therapy and its long list of benefits. I did a ton of research this year into its claims to reduce wrinkles and improve skin tone so Current Body LED Light Therapy Face Mask has been on my radar for a while. But it wasn’t until a brief run in with a Vitamin C serum where, quite frankly, I was mugged for my skin barrier, that I decided it was finally time to put this sci-fi looking mask to the test, see if it could fix the damage and deliver me the ultimate glow-up!

First Impressions

When I unboxed the Current Body LED Light Therapy Face Mask, the first thing that struck me was how sleek and futuristic it looked. It’s a soft, flexible silicone mask with rows of small bulbs on one side, eye and mouth holes and a little flap that goes over your nose. It wraps comfortably around your face with an adjustable strap to hold it firmly in place so you can move around without any issues.

It took my husband and toddler a bit of getting used to seeing me sat about the house looking like Iron Man but personally I think it looks really cool! It also came with a drawstring pouch so you can tidy it away or pack it in a suitcase and not worry about it getting damaged like a hard shell mask might.

I am smiling under the mask, I promise!

What does the mask do?

The Current Body mask uses red, near-infrared and a new deep near-infrared light to target skin at different depths. The red light helps boost collagen production which we all know by now is essential for keeping skin looking fresh and firm. The near-infrared light works on a deeper level to repair damaged cells, soothe inflammation, and improve blood circulation while deep near-infrared targets deep wrinkles and can penetrate up to 10 millimetres into the skin to stimulate collagen production and skin renewal.

When red, near-infrared and deep near-infrared light therapy are combined it’s a triple whammy for wrinkles, uneven skin tone, dullness, and even some skin conditions like acne. The idea is that by using it regularly, you’ll notice a gradual improvement in your skin’s texture, tone, and elasticity. Red light therapy and near infrareds are also good for your eyes and there’s even research showing they can help heal eye injuries, reduce inflammation, and protect against vision loss!

What does each colour of light therapy do?

Different colours of light therapy target specific skin concerns by using wavelengths that penetrate the skin at varying depths:

  • Red Light: Boosts collagen production, reducing fine lines and improving skin elasticity. Often used for anti-aging.
  • Blue Light: Targets acne by killing bacteria on the skin’s surface, helping to reduce breakouts.
  • Green Light: Aims to reduce pigmentation and improve skin tone by targeting melanin production.
  • Yellow Light: Soothes redness and inflammation, making it ideal for sensitive skin.

How to use the LED Light Therapy Mask

One of the biggest perks is how easy it is to use. This mask only needs 10 minutes per session which is ideal if, like me, you’re on the go from the minute you wake up and struggle to find time to fit skincare into your routine. I found it easiest to wear it in the morning after a shower but before I put my make up on. It’s also nice to have some time to just sit amidst the chaos of the morning rush and then it’s done and off your list no matter how crazy busy your day gets after that.

After washing your face all you have to do is hold the on button down to turn it on then and then just sit back and relax! It’s super bright when you switch it on though so I tend to just sit at my dressing table and go on my phone for ten minutes as my phone screen is about the only thing I can see! The mask automatically turns off when the time is up so there’s no need to worry about timing it yourself.

Some tips for using the mask:

  1. Cleanse your skin – Start with a clean face to make sure the light penetrates effectively. Double cleanse if you have time!
  2. Consistency is key – Use it 3-5 times a week for the best results.
  3. Follow with serum or moisturiser – I found that pairing it with a super nourishing moisturiser after use enhanced the glow.
  4. Use goggles if needed – If the light is too bright for you or gives you a headache, the kit comes with goggles that you can slot into the mask to block it out.

Real Results: My Skin After 30 Days

After a month of using the mask every day, here’s what I noticed:

  1. Fewer fine lines – I’ve used so many eye creams and not seen any difference but this is the first time I’ve seen a noticeable reduction in the fine lines around my eyes. The big deep crease on my forehead is also fading which I wasn’t expecting!
  2. More even skin tone – The mask has really helped to reduce redness and blotchiness so my skin looks much more even. The Vitamin C serum I’d used previously had left me with little red blisters on my cheeks that had faded to annoying red marks but a month later and they’re a lot less noticeable to me!
  3. Increased glow – Immediately after using the mask I can see more of an outdoorsy glow to my skin and I think my skin looks overall much more youthful.
  4. Less pores – I’ve always had noticeable pores but I can start to see them shrinking now, especially on my chin.
  5. Softer skin – I’m not sure how but my skin definitely feels softer and I’m not having to exfoliate as much.
  6. Less visible skin damage – The brown hyperpigmentation I get every summer on my forehead has almost gone! There’s usually a little bit still lingering over the winter but this year there’s hardly any sign of it.
  7. Neck lines reduced – The lines on my neck were starting to get a bit deeper and I didn’t think the light from the mask would reach low enough to target these but they’ve definitely reduced.
Before – Hyperpigmentation and fine lines on my forehead and neck, uneven skin tone and large pores. Overall my skin looked tired and rarely had a glow to it. If I wanted to go makeup free I had to use a gradual tanner as my skin tone looked blotchy and red in places.
After – Hyperpigmentation and fine lines on my forehead have reduced, my skin tone still has a natural red undertone but it’s not as uneven anymore, and the size of my pores has reduced. Self tan free at last and with much more glow/bounce to it.

In the before picture I’m wearing a gradual tanner which I would continuously top up during the week as my skin tone was so red and blotchy it was the only way to bring it all together. I also rarely went without makeup; putting a bit of mascara on or just some concealer here and there only seemed to highlight the redness.

On the after picture my skin tone is pretty much the same all over and I haven’t worn any gradual tanner in a month! I also regularly do the school run or work calls without makeup now because I feel like my skin looks smoother, fresher and more glowy.

Has it fixed all my issues? Not yet, but we’re definitely getting there! Like any skincare product, results will vary from person to person, but I’m already impressed with the gradual improvements I can see and will definitely be continuing with it. Current Body offers a 60 day money back guarantee so I’m excited to see what changes I’ll notice after another month of use.

Positives and Negatives

The positives: The mask is incredibly easy to use and is safe for all skin types – my mum has sensitive skin and she’s been nabbing it off me with no complaints. The red and near-infrared light combo tackles multiple skin concerns which is great if you have combination skin like mine that likes to throw a hormonal outbreak into the mix every now and again. It’s also really compact if you’re travelling here, there and everywhere – I’ve taken it on work trips and when staying away for the weekend – which makes it easy to keep up the consistency. And I really love that I don’t have to pay extra at the end of a facial to have this as an add-on anymore!

The negatives: It’s a bit of an investment. At nearly £400, it’s certainly at the more expensive end of the beauty gadget spectrum. However, when you consider how much LED facials cost at a spa, it does pay for itself if you use it regularly, and it’s definitely cheaper than a year’s worth of Botox appointments. The Series 1 mask is a bit cheaper if you’re not wanting to spend as much but it has 132 bulbs to the Series 2 which has 236 plus the deep near-infrared. I find that the charge lasts me about 7 sessions and then it does take a few hours to re-charge again. Not really a negative but something to keep in mind if you’re used to long battery life gadgets.

Final Verdict: Is it worth the hype?

After a month of using the Current Body LED Light Therapy Face Mask, I’d say it lives up to its promises. It’s easy to use, comfortable, and genuinely delivers visible improvements in skin tone, texture, and overall radiance. While the price tag might make you hesitate, it’s a worthwhile investment if you’re serious about long-term skincare.

It’s not instantly fixed all my skin issues but the fact it’s got rid of the inflammation and uneven skin tone alone is enough for me to continue using it. Plus, there’s something incredibly satisfying about knowing you’re giving your skin some high-tech TLC every week. It’s always nice knowing you’re giving your skin a treatment that’s backed by scientists!

If you’re wanting to bring a little salon luxury into your daily routine (and an excuse for 10 minutes of ‘me’ time every day!), the Current Body mask might just be your new favourite secret weapon.
