A babymoon is a great excuse for a holiday before the baby makes their appearance and turns your life upside down! I would always recommend going in the second trimester as the first twelve weeks can be a real rollercoaster, and it’s best to stay close to home in the third. The second trimester is the perfect sweet spot.
So, why should you be planning a babymoon? Well, here are six reasons.
Celebrate your freedom
If this is your first baby, it might be the last time you get to go on holiday alone with your partner for a while. If it’s your second, or third, you might want to take a family babymoon, and it will be the last trip without a newborn. Either way, enjoy the freedom you have now, as things will change very soon!
A babymoon means rest and relaxation
It’s the perfect time to rest and recharge. Book in at a spa, although it’s important to note that some treatments are not suitable for pregnancy. For example, saunas are not recommended but you could look for a pregnancy massage. Enjoy days in the sun and even taking regular naps. Just being away from your regular life and routine can make you feel so much more relaxed.
Spend time with your partner
When you are trying to deal with a crying baby at 3am, you can find yourself getting a little short with your partner. So, before that happens, spend some time remembering why you fell in love in the first place. Your roles will change so it’s nice to have a few days together as you are now.
Make memories
Do fun things, go on walks, take pictures and have adventures. Work hard to make memories that will make those 3am feeds seem a little easier, and give you something to think about while you unintentionally watching the sunrise. Then you can focus on making memories with your new little teammate!
Get planning
From names and nursery themes to birth plans and budgets, there are so many things that you need to discuss and plan. If you try to do too much of this at home, surrounded by the mess and chaos of everyday life, things can become stressful and you might not be as productive as you would like to be. However, discussing these things in a peaceful log cabin, or while sitting in a boat can really help you iron out your thoughts and get excited.
You deserve it
Remember, you are growing an actual human and your body is going through a lot. Physically and mentally there is so much going on for you and if there was ever a time you deserve a holiday, it’s now! Think of it as a reward for all the hard work you are going to be doing over the next few months.
Of course, there are a few things to think about before you decide where to go. For example, you might not want to head to somewhere super remote where you are miles away from medical care. Also remember that some activities, such as skiing, roller coasters, and water parks are not suitable for pregnant women. So, as the pregnant one, you should get to choose where to go – what are you waiting for? Get booking!
