Makeup essentials that you should update regulary… without spending the earth! If like me, you are a lover of all things make up and your idea of heaven is strolling the aisles of Superdrug I am here to tell you, you are not alone.
I have been known to waste away several hours (not to mention several pay packets) trying out the latest make up trends. And I don’t regret a thing. But if you’re just looking to revamp your make up bag with a few tweaks here and there, I am here to show you how.
1. Makeup Essentials: Highlighter
Wowee, I love me some highlight. There is probably no other product that can brighten up your face quite like a good highlighter.
Doesn’t matter what make up look you’re going for, this can update your whole face in an instant. And there are SO many to choose from. With prices that range from £3 right up to £30+ it really is up to you how much you want to invest. My new favourite is the Revolution Pro in Radiance. For less than £6 this highlighter is as good (if not better) than Mac Cosmetics highlighter.
2. Coloured eyeliner
I can almost hear the gasps of horror as you picture the aquamarine under eyeliner look of the 80’s but oh no, we have evolved, believe me. My favourite range is NYX cosmetics, Vivid Brights collection. Emerald, royal blue, lilac to name but a few this simple addition can change your whole look. And for less than £6 what’s not to love?
3. Lipliner

I swear, I don’t know what I did before I tried lining my lips. If you’re after that plump lip minus the filler, then liner will become your best friend. Just outline the edge of lips and smudge inwards to give your lips some colour before you apply your lipstick/lipgloss and believe me you will see the difference. @_makeupbynicola recommends Mac clouds Liptensity Lipstick in my coffee.
4. False eyelashes
Now, I know these aren’t for everyone but with so many styles, shapes and fantastic brands out there to cater for anything from the full-on lash look that I love myself to the simple but effective Eyelure single lashes, this one little trick can change your whole make up look for less than £10.
My favourite? Kitty lash.
5. Make up Tools
Even if you do none of the recommendations above, just do this one for me.
Invest in some good brushes/sponges.
They make all the difference to how your make up is applied, and as long as you keep then clean, they really do last.
My go to tools are, Real Techniques buffing brush for my foundation, their contour brush and the orange beauty blender (amazing copy of this in Home Bargains but ssssh don’t tell anyone!) I also swear by the Superdrug Studio London range especially for applying my eyebrow pomade.
So, go on treat yourself and upgrade that make up bag, you know you want too!
