From the weird to the wonderful, celebrity beauty secrets are something we can’t resist. So today, we’ve taken a look at some of the A-list celebrities most coveted hacks for eternal youth and looking red-carpet ready in the blink of an eye.
Celebrity beauty secrets: Algae Supplements
A pond full of green algae and some of the world’s top models may appear to have nothing in common, but three Victoria’s Secret models (two of them previous Angels) have said they use a green algae supplement called chlorella.
Miranda Kerr, Rosie Huntington-Whitley and, most recently, Kelly Gale have all mentioned they use chlorella; a green algae which grows in fresh water and can be dried to make a powdered supplement, which can be added to smoothies, shakes or sprinkled on food.
Chlorella is thought to boost the body’s production of elastin, which as its name suggests gives our skin its elasticity and an ability to rebound when pinched or pulled. More elastin means more elasticity, which inevitably leads to more youthful looking skin and less sagging and wrinkles.
Oil Pulling
Lauren Conrad, Shailene Woodley and Gwyneth Paltrow are all allegedly dedicated fans of the ancient art of oil pulling – which, for us mere mortals, basically means swishing coconut oil around your mouth every morning for twnty minutes in the pursuit of a brighter, whiter smile!
Japanese Sweet Potato Diet
As if we really need an excuse to eat potatoes, X-Men’s Olivia Munn credits her youthful looks to the famed root veg from Japan. The Japanese Sweet Potato is not only an all-round good food packed full of fibre and vitamin C, it is also an excellent source of hyaluronic acid which helps to binds collagen with elastin – or, in terms we can understand- keeps us looking fresh AF for longer! Even better, the Japanese Sweet potato is much lower in calories than our beloved regular potatoes (weighing in at approx 260cals each) – who knew a portion of chips might actually be good for us!
Artichoke Tea
It might not sound like the ultimate anti-ageing elixir, but research shows that the humble artichoke could have an ability to help slow down our skin’s ageing process and celbrities across the globe are jumping onto the bandwagon. Artichoke extract appears to be able to reduce inflammation and ageing of the skin, making it the perfect alternative to a sugary brew!
Celebrity beauty secrets: Ice Water Dunk
If you think waking up for the gym in the morning is bad for you, try being Kate Hudson. Hollywood’s girl next door submerges her entire face in freezing cold water as soon as she wakes up each morning, and claims that it revitalises her glow, boosts circulation and reduces any inflammation or puffiness.
Bird Poo Facials
Victoria Beckham has taken the urban legend that getting shit on by a bird is lucky extremally literally, apparently swearing by Japanese nightingale facials which use dehydrated bird poo to brighten her complexion and reduce the appearance of acne.
